RESPONSIBILITIES

Respect: You must show respect at all times! This includes your attitude towards directors, instructors, captains, drum majors, and each other. You must have a positive attitude and show good sportsmanship. Gossiping or “Trash Talking” other teams, bands, guards, or members will NOT be allowed! Be helpful and considerate toward others! You must be willing to work hard and rehearse like you will perform at EVERY rehearsal.

General Appearance: Appearance is extremely important as we perform in front of hundreds of people every week. It is important that you always look your best not only for performances, but also when wearing any HHS Guard or HHS Band attire. Visible tattoos or body piercings are prohibited.

Hair: The Color Guard Instructors will determine specific styles.  If you have any trouble with the specific style, please speak with the Color Guard Instructors. This year we will be wearing tight buns with flowers in our hair, please, no one cut their hair till after marching season. DO NOT come to a performance with wet hair. If you color your hair, please keep it a natural color. Extreme colors are prohibited. Please keep hair pulled back out of your face during rehearsals.

Make-up: Full make-up must be worn for all games, pictures, parades, and other performances. If the Color Guard Instructors, Guard Mom or Captains feel your make-up is inappropriate, you will be instructed to fix it. Due to the nature of our activity, theater make-up must be worn. That is, heavier applied make-up then everyday wear. Colors will be determined by the Color Guard Instructor. No fingernail polish is allowed.

Jewelry: NO jewelry is allowed for any performance unless it is part of the uniform.

Uniforms: All uniforms must be clean for every performance. If you are uncertain about how to properly clean any piece of your uniform, please ask the Color Guard Instructors, Guard Mom or Flag Captains. Never spray hair spray while wearing any uniform with sequins as hair spray chemicals ruin the sequins. NO T-SHIRTS may be worn under the uniform!  If you lose or damage any part of your HHS Color Guard attire, it is your responsibility to replace it.

Rehearsals: All rehearsals are MANDATORY. Rehearsal times for the HHS band are Tuesdays and Thursdays till approximately 6PM throughout our “competition season” which lasts through part of October. Color Guard sectionals are Monday after school, 4PM – 6PM. Additional rehearsals may be called as necessary. Members are expected to give 100% at all rehearsals. Chewing gum is not permitted at rehearsals. The HHS Band Office (
984-8110 ext. 562125) MUST be notified if you are going to be absent for ANY reason. Absences will affect your grade!

Rehearsal Rules:

Never leave equipment lying out, you will be responsible for the damage or if lost

Tardiness and Absenteeism: It is YOUR responsibility to be on time and at every rehearsal. You must call (984-8110 ext. 562125) or contact the Guard Instructor (548-9411) if you are going to be late or absent!

Physical Fitness: We recommend that you exercise over the summer and throughout the season. This will help you maintain your strength and build your endurance. It is important to be in shape! The Color Guard Instructors, Band Directors, and Captains should be notified of any health or physical ailments. It is recommended to bring water to all rehearsals.

Fundraisers: Fundraisers will be available throughout the summer and fall to help offset cost of required items. Only those members present at the fundraisers will receive credit towards their total costs

Clothing for Rehearsals: Please dress appropriately for rehearsals. Wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move in and are comfortable.  It is best to wear thick soled shoes for rehearsals. NO SANDALS, BOOTS, OR BARE FEET are allowed. Blue jeans and jean shorts are not recommended. Please also be aware of the length of your shorts-remember you will have a lot of dance and body work-so the shortest shorts you own are probably not a good idea. You are allowed ONE ROLL of the waist band on your shorts. The instructors must be able to see the white of the band. Refer to school policy regarding sleeveless shirts. Tank tops sleeves must be at least the width of you index finger (I must be able to see the fabric on both sides on your finger!). Men’s tank top undershirts must be layered! If the proper clothes are not worn, you will be asked to change or leave practice. No low cut necklines. Remember the three B’s!

Alternates: This year the HHS Color Guard will be using the alternate system. If someone does not attend precamp and/or band camp, does not follow rules, misses or is late to several practices, or does not know the work for the show with given time to learn, they will be placed as an alternate and be pulled from part of the show. If you are starting out as an alternate, you are a member of the color guard like everyone else, but will not start out in the entire show.
