EIGHTH GRADE ORIENTATION LETTER
Dear Parents:
This letter is in regards
to the 2010-2011 Heritage High School Band.
Mr. Juday, Mr. McCurdy & I are excited about next year, and are encouraging
all students to join the Heritage band program. We are hoping to have over 125 band members this coming marching
season. There will be an 8th grade orientation meeting Tuesday, February 23 @
6:00 p.m. in the Heritage High School Bandroom.
If there is any indecision
concerning your child's future participation in the band program, we would like
to talk to you in order to answer any questions. It may seem that the required courses allow no room to schedule
band, but there are an infinite number of ways to include band classes with
some personal attention to your child's schedule. Every effort will be made to see that this is accomplished for
the benefit of your child.
I would highly recommend
your child participating in the Heritage High School Band program for both
semesters during the school year. The
band cannot possibly grow musically if we don't keep some kind of consistency
of attendance throughout the school year.
This organization has the opportunity to travel many different places and
has a successful reputation in the East Tennessee area. Recent statistics prove that young people
who participate in music are among the academically strongest in their
schools. They also have higher SAT
score averages than their fellow classmates.
As adults, lives are filled with the successes which are a direct result
of band experiences: self-discipline, group cooperation, high
self-esteem, understanding teamwork, developing a sense of persistence, and
performance confidence. Band can
provide this foundation for your child.
We hope to see you at the
meeting!
Sincerely,
John Gallagher
Clint Juday
Russell McCurdy
